In front of 74,383 screaming fans in New Orleans at the Louisiana
Superdome, the Georgia Bulldogs rudely ended the Hawaii Warriors'
undefeated dream season 41-10 in the 2008 Allstate Sugar Bowl. The BCS
10th ranked Warriors, trying to duplicate the success of fellow WAC
member Boise State’s success in last year’s Fiesta Bowl, were no match for
the balanced attack and stifling defense of BCS 5th ranked Georgia.
The Bulldogs defense, led by MVP Marcus Howard, harassed Hawaii’s
Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback, Colt Brennan, mercilessly, as he was
sacked 8 times, lost 2 fumbles and tossed 3 interceptions. In the final
game of his storied college career, Brennan was held to a season low 169
yards passing. Howard became the first defensive MVP in nearly 30
years at the Sugar Bowl. With Knowshon Moreno’s two first half running touchdowns, Georgia
was able to take a commanding 24-3 lead. Hawaii, the nation’s
highest-scoring team, was never able to manage a second half
comeback. Instead it was the Bulldogs that set a school record with the
highest-scoring bowl game of its long, proud history, eclipsing a 40-26
win over TCU in the 1942 Orange Bowl.
The official Fox Sports/BCS Sugar Bowl DVD includes the
commercial-free game as well as special bonus features not available
elsewhere. It is a great addition to any Bulldog fan’s collection! |
